Sunday with Guns N' Roses & Blind Melon...

This weekend has been a mesh of side effects of a med increase, struggling at doing some writing and resurrecting the 80s/early90s chick in me. Guns N' Roses has helped me do the latter and despite the strangeness (stranger than normal) that became Axl Rose, I still love the band, the music, his awesome voice, his plaid shirts and his wiggly hips.
I'm also still crushing on Gilby Clarke again since I saw him on Rockstar Super Nova a few years back. ☺(sorry there's so big - the size down seemed so tiny :/)

Hope y'all are having a good weekend.

Flashback Fridays - One Hit Wonders of the 80s

Flashback Fridays - One hit wonders of the 80s. You know there are a lot of them and when you hear the song you go "oh, I remember that - I loved that song" but generally you have no idea who the band who sang it is.

I'm playing this game called Songpop and I'll there'll be a clip to one such one hit wonder and it's on the tip of my tongue just who the hell sang it so here ya go - some of my fave one hit wonders of the 80s (I do have albums of some of these bands too and they weren't really one hit wonders but I just think they never got any radio play *

**disclaimer - I can only go by what dates I find so these might not be 100% accurate & there were so many more I could have posted - perhaps another time**

Flashback Friday - John Cougar Mellencamp

John Cougar Mellencamp - born October 7, 1951 (wow, that makes him 60 - time flies). He'll always be John Cougar to me. He's known for his heartland rock, his passionate songs about the plight of the ordinary man and he's one of the founders of Farm Aid.

I always just loved his music, his sexy voice and thought he was hot as all get out and that's back in the 80's people. Lol. He's had stamina too - minds out of the gutter - I mean he's still around making music, and seriously, how many of us that were around in the 80's didn't know who "Jack & Diane" were or that it "Hurts So Good". I'm pretty sure he was one of my first concerts and I still love the man. Johnny was cool before cool was cool. :D
And of course I posted too many, don't you know me by now? In the realm of TMI - I'm pretty sure John is the one who started my nose fetish but was overtaken by Jared Leto's cute little nose. Lol.

For my BFF, Dawn, because we shared this lovely man back then. Ha. Not in that way though.

Break-out hit - before he figured out how to NOT fight his pretty hair. Lol.

Flashback Friday - Bon Jovi overload

Bon Jovi. They've been a part of my musical life since the mid-80's and still have some high play on my iPod. They also stand as about the 3rd most seen in concert for me. They're electric, addicting, hot, hard-rockin', beautiful-balladin' boys who have stayed together almost 30 years. Obviously, Jon's branched out - solo stuff, country, acting - but he's always stayed true to Richie, David, Tico and Bryan.

I was unhappy when he cut his hair but there's was no denying he still had the looks and the talent - big hair or not. (did you see him in Moonlight & Valentino OR Little City - awesome) Not sure I can pick a fave song of one of my favorite groups ever but I think I'm more into the older stuff from the 80's and early 90's. Back in my younger days (lol) my go-to Karaoke song was "Born to be My Baby" - great song to belt out. As for the rest of the band, I've always totally crushed on Richie Sambora as well - I have Richie solo albums too - though the poor man has been through the ringer over the past few years with his personal life. I always thought Jon and Richie had a pretty awesome bromance - yeah, even back then I was thinking those thoughts. :P

Anyhow, I digress (as usual) so now I give you... the fabulousity that is Bon Jovi.

Flashback Friday - The CULT

The cult emerged in Britain from the forming and disbanding of several other bands in the mid-80s. They crashed onto the scene in 1984 with their single "She Sells Sanctuary" - a song I still have to get up and move to even now.  They could never really be considered one particular style of music - picking up the pseudo-mysticism and Native American obsessions of the Door, the guitar-orchestrations of Led Zeppelin, the three-chord crunch of AC/DC, and adding some touches of post-punk goth rock.

For me, it was the Doors influence and more precisely Jim Morrison aura that lead singer Ian Astbury had going on. He was sexy and bendy and could belt out a song to precision with that unique sultry voice of his. He even became part of a band called The Doors of the 21st Century in 2002. Astbury and original member, Billy Duffy, reformed the band a number of times and as of now are preparing for a new album to be released in May of 2012. I still really love their sound.

Flashback Friday - The uber-fabulous PRINCE

Ahhh, Prince, I've loved you for so long.

Prince Rogers Nelson born November 7, 1958

I've seen Purple Rain a bazillion times and I love it more each time. I wore out at least one Purple Rain cassette tape and I have it on CD now, too. Yeah, that's probably embarrassing but hey, it's Prince.

And you know my OCD does not let me do anything half-way - so there's a few videos here if you care to indulge. I had fun finding them too. :)

Prince made purple cool and brought back the raspberry beret.

He made tiny BIG and taught us how to just go crazy and party like it was 1999.

He was about "Sexuality", "Controversy", "Diamonds & Pearls", "Cream",  kissing and dirty minds.

He was and still is awesome.

Flashback Friday - Warrant, Skid Row, Cinderella

So I'm trying more structure in my blog so Fridays is going to be Flashback Fridays where I post all the music I still love but most people probably don't. :) Basically in my younger years (okay and still), if you put some beautiful long hair on a guy, add some tight clothes (or better yet *coughs* no clothes), give him a killer voice and make him sing power ballads, I'd become a screaming fangirl - okay, I still do. Not that I don't have taste, specifications or favourites but... well, never mind.

Hope you enjoy Flashback Fridays.

(PS You're probably wondering that since today is Tuesday and not Friday, WTF am I doing - answer = I just couldn't wait to get the party started)

Warrant - with the talented Jani Lane who passed away 2 weeks ago.
RIP Jani, we love you.

The amazing Sebastian Bach and Skid Row
